beyond carbon neutral with florim carbonZero-
Since its inception in the Italian district of Sassuolo, Florim has remained steadfast in its dedication to developing luxury porcelain stoneware ceramics with an organic, high-end quality. With CarbonZero- , their range of Climate Positive surfaces, the company commits to furthering their manufacturing prowess with a strong focus on sustainability. Under this program, all products introduced after 2023 combine eco-focused development techniques with the acquisition of carbon credits to go beyond carbon neutrality, offsetting more emissions than what is generated throughout the life of these surfaces.

Founded in 1962, the Italian manufacturing company has upheld the social and environmental performance standards to achieve B Corp status, orienting itself towards creating more value for people and the environment. Florim’s extensive line of surface collections has gained recognition for bold patterns, striking stone-like realism, and a wide variety of designer palettes. Alongside its aesthetic achievements, its product ranges are accompanied by major environmental and system certifications that ensure the material quality evident also in the brand’s 2023 project, CarbonZero-

How Florim reduces CO2 emissions
With the central aim of eliminating all its CO2 emissions, Florim calculated the environmental impact of its surfaces during the product life cycle, including those that occur outside the company. To make its internal processes more sustainable, it has reduced the use of natural resources and invested in a manufacturing process that reuses 100% of wastewater, recycles 100% of raw production waste and self-generates up to 100% of electricity. When solar energy is insufficient, it only secures power from certified renewable sources.

Until technological innovation will make it possible for emissions to be finally brought down to zero, Florim has decided to voluntarily offset the CO2 emitted by the CarbonZero- surfaces. Every tonne of CO2 is compensated through the clean energy generated by supporting certified projects in developing countries with the company’s carbon credit purchases. These include CER (Certified Emission Reductions) carbon credits on the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) registry or UNFCC (United Nations Framework for Climate Change). In doing so, the CarbonZero- collections offset 10% more of the CO2 emitted throughout their life cycle.

From 2023 onwards, collections continue to uphold the visual and compositional standards associated with Florim surfaces while adhering to the principles of the CarbonZero- initiative. With the FLORIM stone brand Compatta (CEDIT), Eccentric Luxe, Essential Mood, Biotech, Stone Life, and Coretech lines the stoneware producer has shown what’s possible with these sustainability focused processes.

The Eccentric Luxe line has captured the vibrance of onyx, replicating the rare gems striations, sheen and coloring to create a sophisticated addition to interior projects. Florim’s Essential Mood collection introduces a fusion of natural hues, coupled with textures and visuals that are meant to put one at ease. The muted tones and resin-like touch evoke a sense of calm in a space, while the Biotech collection is tailored to sustainable architectural applications offering a diverse range of industrial designs in large formats. These products are created using certified raw materials, resulting in surfaces and compositions that pay homage to the stones that served as their muse.

Taking cues from the Burgundy limestone, the Stone Life collection showcases a warm, neutral color palette. Its surfaces are defined by their sleek, understated veining and striking geometric textures, infusing spaces with timeless sophistication. With Coretech, a technical version of Piasentina is created. Capturing the historica stone’s shifting, evocative grays and slender veining, the company creates a form that’s ready for all types of architectural applications. Available in a range of finishes, sizes and thicknesses, Florim CarbonZero- surfaces are ready for luxury interior projects that value the planet’s future.
